Adding a Little Fun!

This Christmas my dear friend and I decided that we would attempt to try something a little different. On my part, I just did the same thing I always do, Tartans. On Chris's side she branched out and I think it really paid off!
This is a baby blanket size of the Giggles Tartan.
Chris made these fun little butterflies. It looks amazing and her daughter Sammy loves it!

This is the Elorna Tartan Pattern. As you can see she loves it!
I think Chris and I will be working together in the future! These little bugs turned out so cute and fun, and they are great for kids!!!

My New Project

A few weeks ago a woman from my church sent me a story about the school she works for. The story was about these children who were freezing out on the playground, pulling their arms into their shirts to try and keep warm. Most of them come from homes that do not have the funds to dress these poor little kids for the winter. Myself, along with many of my friends have decided to start a new side project! We will be knitting , weaving, and crocheting hats, scarves and any other warm items we can to send to school around the USA. Please visit the blog http://chillychillins.blogspot.com We will be updating it with photos of the items, schools we have chosen and members as we grow in the fight to supply as many children across the country with much needed warmth for this upcoming winter!

BACK TO BASICS

It has been a good amount of time since I have done a traditional tartan. I love the colors of the Forbes Tartan and to have the opportunity to make one again is wonderful!
Making the custom Tartans are fun also. It gives you an idea of the persons character you are making it for. That is also how I name them. Giggles was make for a very sweet and fun girl who loves bright vivid color. The Heart Warmer was made for a man who has a rich personality and a very strong and loyal family bond. Spending about 4 months on each of these, you bond with your craft and really gain an appreciation for each personality you come in contact with.
The traditional Tartans give you a very clear perspective on the clan itself. I enjoy doing my research on clans before I start making the tartan because, like the Forbes clan, other clans may have many tartan patterns to choose from. Unless the client gives me a specific tartan they would like, I just pick my favorite one. Most of the tartans for each clan use the same colors, but sometimes you may find a clan that has 4 or 5 tartans in a variety of colors.
